LITTLE CANYON COLLECTIVE

Little Canyon Collective is an alternative provision set up and run by musicians and artists, providing a creative hub for individuals with a variety of support needs to meet, experience and create together. We're very passionate about providing a platform that differs from mainstream support services, focusing on each person's individual skills, passions and interests to pioneer their development.

We don't want to be seen as a support service. Instead we see everyone who attends — ourselves included — as being on the same level, working together to grow and enjoy everything that life has to offer! The core of Little Canyon Collective is to find that creative spark inside us, whether that's music, art, photography, podcasting, screen printing or graphic design — we want to help develop it, and use it as a springboard to increase confidence, independence and connection.

We have a wonderful little family within the Collective, with many of our original attendees from our humble beginnings in 2020 still with us. Get in touch if you believe you'd benefit from being part of it too.

Meet The Team

James Waring

James has two decades experience as a targeted intervention care and youth worker as well as an eclectic roster of musical and artistic projects under his belt. "I've always drawn from on my own lived experience of neurodiversity for creativity but what really lights me up is engaging people who for various reasons struggle with mainstream educational and helping them find their inner creative superpowers".

James founded Little Canyon Printworks in 2015 with Annelise Atkinson as an offshoot from their grassroots Nottingham design, illustration and printing agency. Annelise took up more design work in London while James printed loads of sleeves and band merch for the likes of The Go Team, Poliça, and The Low Anthem to name drop a few but the catch was a shared space with 24/7 rehearsals so he moved to Wirksworth and it's uniquely arty community & alternative spirit and hasn't looked back since.

Arran Day

Arran began working in social care at the age of 21 and immediately developed a passion for working with disadvantaged young people, particularly autistic young people, striving to help them reach their goals and experience all that life has to offer. Before working in social care Arran had several different jobs around live music and joinery, but quickly realised that this wasn't where he wanted to be. When he was given the opportunity to begin supporting others he saw it as a second chance, and believes everyone should have the opportunity to do what makes them happy.

Arran's background includes working as a manager in the semi independence sector, specialist work with autistic young people at Nottingham Autism Support Services, and work with the Leaving Care Team at Nottinghamshire County Council. Alongside this Arran also plays lead guitar with Derby-based rock band These Wicked Rivers.

The course was perfect for my son and his needs, the activities were all things that he is interested in, he really enjoyed doing the podcasts and Garageband.

Having 1-1 support really helps keep him keep focused so he can learn and achieve at his own pace. It was great that he was able to develop a new friendship with the others on the course, being able to give someone else support gives him a sense of achievement.
